This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. For me, this is an important time to recognize the work that excellent teachers do each day in shaping the lives of their students. Teaching truly is the profession that makes all others possible.

To show our appreciation, SouthCarolinaCAN has launched a campaign to send hundreds of notes of thanks to teachers who live and work in communities across the state. What makes this campaign special is that it’s interactive and anyone can (and should) participate. Take a few minutes to read the notes of appreciation below, then fill out the short form below to send your note of thanks, inspirational message or letter of encouragement. All messages that we receive by the end of the week will be included in this blog.

That’s an easy way to make a great teacher feel special this week!

I hope you will join me in participating in this important campaign.

Show your appreciation! Tell us why you love your teacher or share an encouraging message they deserve to hear this week.

I wish to tell several teachers THANK YOU! for your service. Each day you enter into the classroom regardless of what’s going on in your personal life, putting your own challenges aside to ensure that the lives of our children are enriched. Each of you are met with dozens of different personalities and various learning styles not to mention State and Federal testing and teaching guidelines and requirements. It is to my amazement that each of you come back day after day, year after year, providing the best possible you to each of our students and for that I wish to publicly THANK YOU!

To the Teachers of children, from the first stage of learning to the highest level of learning, I applaud you. Teachers, you are educational heroes who are the silent professionals behind the scenes, doing the hard work, stimulating children’s young minds and given flight to new ways of viewing and thinking about things. Just as I have remembered from my past, the faces, names and the exact moments in my life when a Teacher made a positive and significant impact in my life which inspired me. I am certain that the same has held true to today with some of the greatest minds of this century who have given birth and will continue to give birth to the most spectacular technological inventions and achievements which this world has ever known. Every great mind that have come before us and ever great mind which will follow all have one thing in common. That is was a Teacher who taught them how to unlock their minds and learn multiple disciplines, which was the foundation and the key to their greatness. From a grateful parent of two wonderful children, stay strong, positive and encourage through the difficult times, the children are watching you, depend on you, respect you, care about you and love you. Great job!

The growth she has shown as a professional educator speaks to her desire to improve the lives of the children she encounters daily.

As an advocate for children, I admire the care and concern she shows in their human value.

Good teachers teach because they are passionate about teaching. Great teachers like you, teach to make the world a better place.

Time and again, I am a witness to the amazing and tireless efforts of educators on the front lines, not only teaching academics, but working with young people to address conflict, trauma, stress, heartbreak and all the other non-academic challenges that impact their learning and their lives. Thank you. Because of teachers, every day children are inspired to try harder, solve problems and follow their passions. Because of teachers, every day I am inspired to continue supporting their efforts. Together we are making change happen.
